1.Can you give us an update on what has been going on with the band since the recording of te new album?
After the recording and the final mix was done, we searched a label which will release our new album. At the beginning of December 2018 we found in Iron Bonehead Productions the perfect partner for us. The first half of the year 2019 wasn't really spectacular. Deus and Me visited some concerts from time to time. Also we meet us with good old friends to drink some beers and hailz the glory days of metal. At the end of april we finished the layouts for CD and Vinyl. Since the middle of june we rehearsal together again to create new stuff for a next album.
2.You have a new album coming out in August, musically how does it differ from the stuff you have released in the past?
Well, I think we used a little bit of other styles for Missa Pro Defunctis. We filled the drums with elements of doom, death and thrash metal. I created also new voice structures, the voices are more lower like of the old recordings. I think that gives the sound more power. There is a better structure inside the songs, they can more breath.
3.This is also your first release in 10 years, can you tell us a little bit more about what has been going on during that time frame?
Now, if I look back in this time there is not so much what we had done. After we published "Diabolical Katharsis" it was more and more a problem to rehearsal together. Our drummer and bassist at this time lived more than 100 km from my home. And by work, family and other things we couldn't find the right time to rehearsal together. We made a decision and splitted us.
Deus and Me lay down the band on ice for an indefinite time. But the impulse to create music again never died. And so at the end of 2016
we started with a lot of rehearsal. In a short time it was clear we will make a new album. Through the following year we created new songs. In October 2018 we entered the Old Spirit Studio to record the new album “Missa Pro Defunctis”. As a guest singer created D. Wolfram (Orlog, Darkness Shall Rise Productions) a vocal part on the track “Wolfhour”. At the end of November we could transfer everything to Patrick W. Engel from Tempel Of Disharmony. He made the final mix and the mastering.
And now we stand here, ten years later, ten years older to celebrate a mass of death.
4.Some of your lyrics deal with Satanism and Occultism, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in the dark arts?
If I was a young metal head I was totally possessed by this themes. I read books from Crowley, LaVey, Cavendish, Arkon, Lovecraft and I celebrated this art so much as possible. It was also a pleasure to shock the people in my hometown. Nowadays I need occult forms which I can see and feel. There is only one essence for me in the universe, the Death.
5.What are some of the other lyrical topics and subjects you have explored over the years with your music?
The important theme is now and for the future "All father Death" I created around the new album a mess for him and deceased. A concept album where he is really 95% present. Some years ago I've lost an important person in my life. Now, the new album was a good way to handle all my impressions and feelings. Every song is a journey for me, through the land of the reaper. It carries me from impulse to impulse, unbelievable this feeling.
6.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Reign In Blood'?
The name reflects the dark side of mankind. All the dark desires which live inside the human. Desires like, destroy, war, sadism, masochism, drugs, killing, lust, sin, pain. All the things which create a hell on earth. So many blood flows through the history of mankind, it was always a bloody reign. The name is like a mirror which reflects the life.
7.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the new album cover?
The creature of the cover presents all father death, but in a other form without boneface and scyth. He celebrates the "Missa Pro Defunctis" and in his right hand he hold the cup of life. Knowing about all things from the beginning till the end. The symbol of the mask presents old wisdom's. And the magic white eye reflects the eternal connection between life and death. His view shines to all of us, no matter if you are strong, weak, rich or poor always he looks to us. But if he flushes the cup of life he turns his view from you then its time to die. He is the guardian about life and death. You can see him everyday by social media, war, catastrophe or in the nature. In my eyes he is the one and only God in the universe. He is so real not like the other gods which you can never see.
8.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?
We played only a handful of concerts in the time from 2007-2009. In my opinion the best time on stage was the little tour 2008 with Blodsrit from Sweden. We celebrated our shows in the past like an ritual, with fire, fog and dark energies.
9.Do you have any touring or show plans once the new album is released?
There are no concerts planned in the 9 next time. Now, it's very difficult for us to play shows or tours. We work in full time job and we have a lot of other important liabilities.
10.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?
Mhh, I don't know!!! I think RIB is not so popular around the world and there is a little fan base. We could make a great experience with a label in Japan. Shota from Hidden Marly Productions Re-released our album "Diabolical Katharsis" 2018 in a new edition with a bonus track.
11.What is going on with some of the other bands or musical projects these days that some of the band members are a part of?
All bands or project from the past are splitted up or lay down on ice. Nowadays is Reign In Blood the only Band from Deus and Me.
12.Where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
I found a lot of new ways through the new album to create songs. This sound let my heart and soul burn and this is what I want. I think in the future we will create songs also in this style but with even more depth.
13.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?
My Metal roots lay back in the middle of the eighties. Many Bands from this time influenced me, King Diamond, Bathory, Metallica, Slayer, old Accept, old Sepultura, Morbid Angel, Morgoth, Type O Negative, Ozzy Osbourne and a lot of bands from the first wave of black metal Beherit, Satyricon, Dissection, Mayhem, Tormentor.
Nowadays I listen the old stuff too, but I found also a lot of bands from the last years which I also like. Secrets of the Moon, Ascension, Inquisition, Lunar Aurora, Watain, Uada, great bands, great sound.
14.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
An eternal mystery is the life but the death remains a secret.
Thanks for the interview and the support in the USA. Keep the flame of metal spirit alive, hail and cheers!
