Golden Ashes are a solo project from the Netherlands that plays a very synth heavy droning form of atmospheric black metal and this is a review of his self released 2019 album "Gold Are the Ashes Of The Restorer".
A very fast and raw sound starts off the album along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Atmospheric sounding synths are also mixed in with the heavier sections of the music while the vocals are mostly high pitched sounding black metal screams and the music also mixes in elements of blackgaze.
Drones can also be heard in certain sections of the recording while the synths also gives the songs more of an epic atmosphere at times. The songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as the music also adding in a decent mixture of both old school and modern influences and as the album progresses an ambient style instrumental is also added onto the recording.
Golden Ashes takes an old school form of synth orientated black metal and mixes it in with some elements of blackgaze and drone to create a sound of his own. The production sounds very dark, raw and lo-fi while the lyrics cover darkness, myths, dreams and death themes.
In my opinion Golden Ashes are a very great sounding synth heaving droning atmospheric black metal solo project and if you are a fan of t his musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The All Consuming Light Of Eternal Death" "An Abstraction of The Abyss" and "The Charred Gates Of Benevolence". 8 out of 10.
