Ossomancer are a duo from California that plays an esoteric form of black metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "Artes Magickae" which will be released in September by Pacific Threnodies.
A very dark sound starts off the album before going into a heavier musical direction while the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams along with the music also bringing in more of a 90's era atmospheric sound at times but done in a more modern style.
Synths are also added into some parts of the music while the songs also have their ritualistic moments. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with some clean playing also being added into certain sections of the recording and all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them.
Some tracks also add in a small amount of spoken word parts along with one song also adds in some session work from Proscriptor MeGovern of Absu as well as most of the music also sticking more to a mid tempo direction, the closing track is very long and epic in length and also adds in a small amount of blast beats. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Magick, Western Occultism, Mythology and Mysticism themes.
In my opinion Ossomancer are a very great sounding esoteric black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Necromancy" "Chiromancy" and "Geomancy". 8/5 out of 10.
