White Ward are a band from Ukraine that plays post black metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "Love Exchange Failure" which will be released in September by Debember Morti Productions.
Police sirens along with some pianos start off the album while also introducing saxophones onto the recording before going into a heavier direction. Most of the tracks are very long and epic in length and when the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can also be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Vocals are mostly angry sounding black metal screams while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very dark yet melodic style and one track also introduces acoustic guitars onto the recording.
At times the music also gets very progressive sounding along with some elements of shoegaze and post rock being added into some parts of the music and as the album progresses spoken word parts can also be heard in certain sections of the recording, as the album progresses the music also has it's atmospheric moments and clean vocals can also be heard briefly on a few tracks. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover existential and psychological horror themes.
In my opinion White Ward are a very great sounding post black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Love Exchange Failure" "No Cure For Pain" and "Uncanny Delusions" . 8 out of 10.
