Ukraine's Algeia have returned with a new recording which continues the atmospheric and depressive style of black metal from their previous release and this is a review of their 2020 album "Patient 34" which was released by Kryrart Records.
Spoken word samples which are also utilized on some of the other songs start off the album before adding in some clean playing which also leads up to the music going into a heavier direction. Vocals are mostly grim yet depressive black metal screams while the faster sections of the songs also bring in a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking which also gives the music more of a raw feeling.
All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them while the riffs also add in a great amount of melody. All of the drum beats are programmed along with the solos and leads being done in a melodic style and throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length along with a couple of tracks also introducing classical guitars onto the recording as well as clean playing also returning on a later track, keyboards are also added onto the closing song. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover depression and suicide themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Algeia and if you are a fan of atmospheric and depressive black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Stone Heart" and "Suicide". 8 out of 10.
