Luctus are a band from Lithuania that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays a very aggressive and raw style and this is a review of their 2020 album "Uzribis" which will be released in April by Inferna Profundis Records.
A very dark sounding intro starts off the album which also introduces synths onto the recording before going into a very fast and raw black metal direction which also uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats along with the solos and leads also being done in a very dark yet melodic style.
Vocals are done in a very deep growling style while grim screams are also utilized at times and all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. Throughout the recording you can also here a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and dark sounding melodies can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing.
Elements of war metal can also be heard in some of the faster sections of the music along with the music also having some of its atmospheric and dissonant moments. The songs also add in a decent mixture of both old school and modern influences, synths also make a return on some of the later tracks.
Clean playing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording as well as a great portion of the song also being very long and epic in length and they also bring in a couple of instrumentals. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Lithuanian and cover a spiritual journey through the obscure depths of the soul, breaking through any boundaries of social life, in search of the other world.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Luctus and if you are a fan of raw, melodic, aggressive and atmospheric black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Sušiurpintas ano pasaulio nuostabos" "Už sapno ribų" and "Vandens paviršiumi". 8/5 out of 10.
