Chotzä are a band from Switzerland that plays black'n'roll and this is a review of their 2020 album "Chotzä/" which will be released on March 31st as a joint effort between Northern Fog Records, Sturmglanz, and Worship Tapes.
Music samples start off the album before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also uses a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking. Vocals are a mixture of grim and high pitched black metal screams while the music also adds in a great amount of black'n'roll elements.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they also bring in more of an old school style while the music also mixes in the raw aggression of the first wave era and punk rock but in a more modern style. All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them and a small amount of melody can also be heard in the guitar riffing.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the music also bringing in a great amount of Norwegian influences as well as one track also introducing clean playing and pianos onto the recording, back up shouts are also added into some parts of the album and a couple of songs are also very long and epic in length. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics are written in their native tongue and cover satanism, sex, drugs, murder, violence, hate and sickness themes.
In my opinion Chotzä are a very great sounding black'n'roll band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Dräck am Schtäckä (Vatikan Version)" "Sex, Suff & Satan" "Abfau" and "Tüüfuswärk". 8 out of 10.
