Boreal are a band from Olympia, Washington that plays an ambient form of black metal and this is a re-recording of an album they originally released in 2006 called "The battle Of VOSAD" with the newer version being released in May of 2020 by Nebulae Artifacta.
Epic sounding synths start off the album and also mix in with the heavier sections of the music at times while also mixing in elements of dark ambient. Most of the drum beats are programmed while the music also adds in touches of dungeon synth at times and the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams which are mixes down low in the mix.
all of the tracks are also long and epic in length while the music also has its atmospheric moments. When the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the music more of a raw feeling as well as some melodic guitar leads also being utilized at times, classical guitars percussion can also be heard briefly on a couple of the tracks and the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the album also closes with an instrumental.
Boreal plays a style of ambient black metal that is very epic and atmospheric sounding along with some touches of dungeon synth. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover darkness, nature and battle themes.
In my opinion Boreal are a very great sounding ambient black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genres, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Battle" and "Dawn". 8 out of 10.
