Errant is a solo project from the United States that plays a mixture of post black, doom, thrash metal and alternative rock and this is a review of her self titled and self released 2020 ep.
Clean laying starts off the ep and also returns on some of the later tracks before going into a heavier direction. Vocals are mostly angry sounding black metal screams while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them along with the riffs also adding in a great amount of melody.
Elements of post and alternative rock are also utilized quite a bit throughout the recording along with the solos and leads being done in a very melodic style. When the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which gives the songs more of a raw feeling as well as the guitar leads also being in a melodic style.
A lot of the slower sections of the music also shows an influence of doom metal as well as one track also introducing clean vocals onto the recording. Throughout the ep you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as some of the riffing also adding in a touch of thrash metal, at times the music also gets very progressive and synths can also be heard in certain sections of the recording. The production sounds very professional for being a self released recording while the lyrics cover self loathing, confusion and searching fro strength in an enervating world.
In my opinion Errant is a very great sounding mixture of post black, doom, thrash metal and alternative rock and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this solo project. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "A Vacillant Breath" and "Saturday Saviour". 8 out of 10.

just because music is self released doesnt mean they recorded it themselves. it very clearly states she recorded at a studio with a professional engineer (pete grossmann) who also did an immortal bird album
