White Nights are a band from the United States that plays an abstract form of black metal with some elements of death rock and this is a review of their 2020 ep "Into The Lap Of The Ancient Mother" which will be released in April by Iron Bonehead Productions.
Spoken word parts start off the ep along with some psychedelic sounding organs a few seconds later which also mixes in with the heavier sections of the music at times. Most of the music is also very heavily rooted in black metal screams as well as the vocals also bringing in an aggressive spoken style.
All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while the music also mixes in a great amount of death rock elements. At times the music also gets very avant garde and experimental sounding along with one of the tracks being very long and epic in length, all of the songs sound different from each other as well as all of the tracks sticking to either a slow or mid tempo style.
White Nights plays a style of black metal that is very abstract sounding as well as mixing in some psychedelic, experimental and death rock elements to create something very original. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover hallucinating themes.
In my opinion White Nights are a very great sounding abstract black metal band with some death rock elements and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Litha" and "Bolthorn". 8 out of 10.
