Marblebog is a solo project from Hungary that plays an ambient form of black metal and this is a review of his 2020 album "Kietlen" which was released by Cyclopean Eye Productions.
Classical guitars start off the album before going into a heavier direction which also introduces ambient style keyboards onto the recording. All of the drum beats are programmed while a great portion of the songs are very long and epic in length and the vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams.
Melancholic sounding melodies can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. When guitar leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with one track also introducing clean playing onto the recording and all of the music sticks to either a slow or mid tempo direction as well as being rooted in a more classic era of ambient black metal.
Marblebog plays a musical style that takes black metal and ambient and mixes them together to create a sound of his own. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics darkness, nature and melancholic themes.
In my opinion Marblebog is a very great sounding ambient black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Call Of The Cold Moon In The December Forest" and "Doomed To Wander The Bleak Landscapes Of Life". 8 out of 10.
