Leda Spiridon are a band from France that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays a very dark form of ambient black metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Edfell - A Dark Summer Of Light" which will be released on March 20th by War Productions.
Dark soundscapes start off the album before going into a heavier direction while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. Nature sounds can also be heard briefly along with the vocals being mostly grim sounding black metal screams and the riffs also add in a great amount of melody.
The only track that is presented on the recording is also 34 minutes in length while the synths also add elements of ambient into the music. The song also has its atmospheric moments along with some clean playing also being utilized at times as well as the track also getting experimental at times.
As the album progresses the music also starts getting more diverse along with some acoustic guitars and clean playing also being added into some parts of the song as well as the track also capturing an improv atmosphere at times, melodic guitar leads can also be heard briefly and when the songs finally speeds up blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard and also gives the track more of a raw and aggressive touch. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover darkness and nature themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Leda Spiridon and if you are a fan of ambient black metal, you should check out this album. 8 out of 10.
