D Aphelium/Profetian om Dygden och Plikten/Black Market Metal Label/2020 CD Review

  D  Aphelium  are  a  solo  project  from  Sweden  that  plays  a  very  melodic  and  old  school  form  of  black  metal  and  this  is  a  review  of  their  2020  album  "Profetian  om  Dygden  och  Plikten"  which  was  released  by  Black  market  Metal  Label.

  Epic  sounding  keyboards  start  off  the  album  before  going  into  more  of  a  heavier  and  melodic  musical  direction.  Vocals  are  mostly  grim  sounding  black  emtal  screams  while  the  faster  sections  of  the  music  bring  in  a  great  amount  of  blast  beats  and  tremolo  picking  which  also  gives  the  songs  more  of  a  raw  feeling.

  When  guitar  solos  and  leads  are  utilized  they  are  done  in  a  very  melodic  style  while  the  songs  also  add  in  a  decent  mixture  of  slow,  mid  paced  and  fast  parts.  Most  of the  music  is  also  very  heavily  rooted  in  the  90's  Swedish  era  as  well  as  one  track  also  introducing  spoken  word  parts  onto  the  recording,  keyboards  also  return  on  some  of  the  later  tracks  and  a  couple  of  songs  are  also  long  and  epic  in  length.

  D  Aphelium  plays  a  style  of  black  metal  that  is  very  old  school,  atmospheric  and  melodic  sounding  in  the  90's  tradition.  The  production  sounds  very  dark  and  raw  while  the  lyrics  are  written  in  Swedish  and  cover  death  and  nature  themes.

  In  my  opinion  D  Aphelium  are  a  very  great  sounding  melodic,  atmospheric  and  old  school  black  metal  solo  project  and  if  you  are  a  fan  of  this  musical  genre,  you  should  check  out  this  recording.  RECOMMENDED  TRACKS  INCLUDE  "Skogens  ra"  and  "Livserk  genom  generationer".  8  out  of  10.
