This is a review of a split album between California's Black Fucking Cancer and Gloam with the album being called "Boundless Arcane Invokations" which will be released on September 13, 2019 by Senteint Ruin Laboratories and we will start off the review with Black Fucking Cancer a band that plays a very violent and malefic form of black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with some ritualistic soundscapes while their track is also 22 minutes in length. When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo piking and blast beats can be heard which also gives their song more of a raw feeling and the vocals are mostly grim black metal screams.
Throughout the track you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with some of the riffing also getting very repetitive sounding at times as well as some melodic guitar leads being used briefly as the song progresses as well as the riffs also adding in a small amount of dark sounding melodies, all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover blasphemy, misanthropy, plagues and perversion themes.
In my opinion Black Fucking Cancer are a very great sounding violent and malefic black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genres, you should check out their side of the split.
Next up is Gloam a band that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays a shapeshifting form of atmospheric black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with a very fast and raw sound which also uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Their track is also 18 minutes in length while the vocals are mostly grim black metal screams along with their track also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
Throughout their track you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with a small amount of guitar leads also being utilized at times. The riffs also add in melody at times. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover death, magick, sorrow and hatred themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding track from Gloam and if you are a fan of atmospheric black metal, you should check out their side of the split.
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and I would recommend it to all fans of dark, aggressive and atmospheric black metal. 8 out of 10.
