Maieutiste are a band from France that has been featured before in this zine and on this recording plays a very progressive and avant garde form of black metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "Vritas" which will be released in October by Les Acteurs de I. Ombre Productions.
Dark soundscapes start off the album before going into a heavier direction which also introduces melodic guitar leads onto the recording. When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Vocals are mostly grim black metal screams along with some clean avant garde style vocals also being used at times. At times the music also gets very progressive sounding along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic style along with some acoustic guitars and jazz elements also being used briefly. The slower sections of the songs also show an influence of doom metal as well as a great portion of the tracks being very long and epic in length.
Touches of ambient and folk rock can also be heard in certain sections of the recording, at times the vocals also get deeper sounding and as the album progresses a brief use of stringed instruments can also be heard and towards the end female vocals are also utilized briefly. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics are written in French and cover forbidden knowledge and the nature of the concept of truth.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Maiestiste and if you are a fan of progressive and avant garde black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Infinitus" and "Universum". 8 out of 10.
