Negarte are a solo project from Spain that plays an experimental form of post black metal with some elements of ambient, punk and doom metal and this is a review of his self released 2019 album "Ancient Shelters".
A very experimental and avant garde sound starts off the album which also brings in elements of ambient and also mixes in with the heavier sections of the music. Clean playing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording and the vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams.
Elements of post black and doom metal can also be heard quite a bit throughout the recording while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. When guitar leads are utilized they are done in a very dark and melodic style along with some of the tracks being instrumental.
An influence of punk can also be heard in some parts of the recording and on the closing track the music speeds up and also adds in tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the song more of a raw feeling. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics have a concept to them and cover dark themes.
In my opinion Negarte are a very great sounding experimental and avant garde black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Fragment II" and "Fragment VII". 8 out of 10.
