Darvulia are a band from France that plays an old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2019 demo compilation album "Acte: Dix" which will be released on October 21st by Nebular Carcoma.
Percussion starts off the album before going into a heavier musical direction while the faster sections of the songs also add in a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the music more of a raw feeling. Vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a dent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. The riffs also add in a decent amount of melody while the music also adds in a great amount of 90's influences as well as the solos and leads being done in a very old school and melodic style and they also bring in a ritualistic interlude briefly as the compilation progresses before returning back to a heavier direction and they close with a cover of Darkthrone's "The Dance Of Eternal Shadows"..
Darvulia plays a style of black metal that is very raw and old school in the 90's tradition. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in French and cover witchery, vampirism and death themes.
In my opinion Darvulia are a very great sounding raw and old school black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this compilation. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Ainsi soit-il" "Carnage Nocturne" and "Mauvias temps". 8 out of 10.
