Russia's solo project Nebula Orionis has returned with a new recording which continues his cosmic , cinematic and instrumental mixture of atmospheric post black metal. ambient and space music and this is a review of his 2019 ep "Ashes" which was released by Casus Belli Musica.
Ambient style synths start off the ep along with the music also adding in a great amount of cinematic elements which also mix in with the heavier sections of the songs. The riffing also shows some black metal influences as well as the music also avoiding the use of any songwriting and vocals.
Elements of space music can also be heard in some parts of the recording while all of the drum beats are also programmed. The recording also adds in touches of symphonic music at times along with all of the riffing being done on power chords and all of the songs stick to either a slow or mid tempo direction and as the ep a brief use of spoken word parts can also be heard.
On this recording Nebula Orionis remains true to the cosmic, cinematic and instrumental mixture of atmospheric post black metal, space and ambient music that he had established on previous releases and the production also sounds very professional.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Nebula Orionis and if you are a f an of cinematic, ambient, instrumental and atmospheric post black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Fallen Empires" and "Dust". 8 out of 10.
