France's Blut Aus Nord have returned with a new recording which shows them expanding on their experimental style of black metal and this is a review of their 2019 album "Hallucinogen" which will be released in October by Debembur Morti Productions.
A very dark, heavy and atmospheric sound starts off the album while the solos and leads are done in a very melodic style. All of the tracks are very long and epic in length Synths are also utilized quite a bit throughout the recording as well as some choir vocals also being added into some parts of the music.
The riffs also add in a decent amount of melody while the music also shows some influences of 60's to 70;s era progressive rock but also keeping it very modern at the same time. Clean playing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording and grim black metal screams are also a very huge part of the album.
At times the music also gets very experimental and avant garde sounding along with one song also introducing fast tremolo picking and blast beats onto the recording which also gives the music more of a raw feeling but keeping the focus more on a mid tempo direction. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover hallucinogens. mysticism, occultism, philosophy and individualism themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Blut Aus Nord and if you are a fan of this band, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Nomos Nebuleam" "Anthosmos" and "Cosma Procyiris". 8 out of 10.
