This is a review of another recording from Greece's Rotting Christ this time the music being a mixture of melodic black and goth metal and the album was originally released in 2004 and called "Sanctus Diavolos" with the newer version being re-issued in 2019 by Sleaszy Rider Records.
A very fast and raw sound starts off the album along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams along with some clean goth style vocals also being utilized at times and all of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while keyboards are also added into some parts of the music and also gives the songs more of an atmospheric feeling. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style.
Operatic female vocals can also be heard briefly along with some demonic growls also being utilized at times as well as the riffs also utilizing a great amount of melody, when spoken word parts are added into the music they also give the recording more of a ritualistic feeling and some of the riffing also brings in a style that was very modern for 2004 as well as some touches of thrash metal and the last two tracks are long and epic in length. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Occultism and Philosophical themes.
In my opinion this was another great sounding recording from Rotting Christ and if you are a fan of black and gothic metal, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Visions Of A Blind Order" "You My Cross" "Shades Of Evil" and "Sanctus Diavolos". 8 out of 10.
