Katharos XIII are a band from Romania that have had an album reviewed before in this zine and on this recording evolve into more of a mixture of depressive black, dark, doom metal and post jazz and this is a review of their 2019 album "Palindrome" which will be released in October by Loud Rage Music.
Clean playing starts off the album while the keyboards also gives the songs more of a haunting atmosphere. All of the tracks are very long and epic in length along with some clean female vocals also being utilized quite a bit throughout the recording and when saxophones are utilized they also add in elements of jazz music.
Depressive black metal screams are also added into some parts of the songs while the slower sections of the music also add in elements of dark and doom metal. Dark sounding melodies can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing and at times the music also gets very experimental and avant garde sounding, one track also introduces spoken word parts onto the recording and all of the songs sticks to a slow direction.
On this recording Katharos XIII evolves into more of a mixture of depressive black, dark, doom metal and post jazz to take their sound to another level. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover suicide, death and misanthropy themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Katharos XIII and if you are a fan of depressive black, dark, doom metal and post jazz, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Vidma" and "No Sun Swims". 8 out of 10.
