Dendritic Arbor are a band from Pennsylvania that plays a mixture of black metal, noise, grind, and crust and this is a review of their self released 2013 ep "Sylvan Matriarch".
"Introduction" begins with harsh noise sounds and serves as an intro for the ep.
"Concrete Brine" begins with heavy grindcore/crust guitar riffs, blast beats and high pitched black metal screams and after a while deep death metal growls become a part of the song as well as some technical riffing along with some grind style vocals and after awhile the song goes into a s lower direction before getting fast again and as the song moves on there is a brief use of heavy bass guitars and depressive black metal screams and the song closes with noise sounds.
"Our Mother Disgraced" begins with heavy black/grind guitar riffs and blast beats which lead to some high pitched screams along with some deep growls in the background which takes the song into a slower direction and then going into a faster direction with some primitive black metal riffing which leads to a brief use of guitar leads and then going into a slow doom direction for awhile before going into a noise/grind direction and the song closes with harsh noise sounds.
"Drifting" begins with harsh noise/drone sounds and after awhile grim black metal vocals become a part of the song along with some drums and heavy guitars which then take the song in a faster direction along with some blast beats and after a few minutes it goes back to its noise roots along with some heavy bass guitars which then lead to some noisecore style guitar riffs which start getting fast along with the returning vocals.
Song lyrics cover hateful themes, while the production has a very heavy, raw and primitive sound to it.
In my opinion Dendritic Arbor are a very great sounding hybrid of black metal, noise, grind, and crust and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Concrete Brine" and "Our Mother Disgraced". RECOMMENDED BUY.
