Frostbitten are a 1 man band from the United Kingdom that plays a very experimental, instrumental, and depressive form of black metal and this is a review of their self released 2012 album "Nocturnal Hypnosis.
"An Ode To The Night Time" begins with some acoustic guitar playing which utilizes both finger picking and full chords and after a minute drum programming and heavy guitar riffs make their way into the song while also keeping the acoustic parts in the background before going more into a heavier direction for a few minutes and then reverting back and forth between acoustic and electric parts.
"Delusions Of Grandeur" begins with some soft acoustic guitar playing and a minute later heavy black/doom metal guitar riffs and drum beats make their way into the song and stay in there for a few minutes before returning to the acoustic parts and a minute later bass playing makes its way into t he song and the music heads more into a jazz direction before getting heavy again for a few seconds before making switches back and forth between soft and heavier parts.
"Somnambulistic Journeys" begins with some classic rock style acoustic guitars which utilize both finger picking and full chords and a few minutes later heavy black metal influenced doom metal guitar riffs and drum beats make their way into the song and as times moves on the guitar riffing goes more into a depressive black metal direction along with a brief blast beat as well as the music getting a little bit more fast before slowing down again and towards the end it makes a return back to a softer direction for awhile before going into a 50's rock and roll sound and bring in some guitar leads.
"Life Has New Meaning (Awakening From Darkness)" begins with some soft acoustic guitar playing and a minute later guitar riffs and drum beats make their way into the song for a few minutes before going back to the acoustic guitars and bringing in upbeat full chords before getting heavy again and making switches back and forth between distorted and acoustic guitar parts.
Song themes cover darkness and depression, while the production has a very dark, raw and primitive sound with the songs being very long and epic in length.
In my opinion Frostbitten are a very great sounding instrumental, experimental and depressive black metal project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "An Ode To The Night Time" and "Delusions Of Grandeur". RECOMMENDED BUY.
