Bitter Peace are a duo from Connecticut that plays a very dark, and heavy form of black metal and this is a review of their 2013 album "Opus II" which was released by Moribund Records.
"Initiation" begins with some distorted sound effects which start getting darker as the song moves on as well as adding in some diverse elements and serves as an intro for the album.
"I Spite" begins with a spoken word sample along with some blast beats and melodic black metal guitar riffs which lead to some grim sounding black/death metal vocals which evolve into screams and cries and after awhile the music starts slowing down before making a switch back and forth between slow and fast parts as well as the riffing adding in more dark and primitive elements and bringing some slower riffs at times, towards the end of the song there is a brief use of guitar solos and leads.
"Green Harlot Of Abominations" begins with black metal vocals, slow guitar riffs and drums and a few seconds later the vocals start utilizing some depressive grim elements as well as the riffing getting more melodic but remaining primitive at the same times along with some deep death metal growls shortly after that, as the song moves on there is a brief use of melodic guitar leads which leads to some faster drums and guitars towards the end and the song closes with a spoken word Hitler sample.
"Elevation Of The Profane Host" begins with some slow black metal guitar riffs and grim vocals which lead to the song going into a more fast and primitive direction along with some blast beats along with some melody getting added in before going into a slower direction and then switching back and forth between slow and fast parts and bringing in a brief use of chanting.
"Searching For Serenity" begins with some movie samples and spoken word parts and there are no musical instruments being present on this song with it being an intro for the next song.
"Ixiveyra" begins with a spoken word part which leads to some dark guitar riffs and drums before going into a more fast, melodic and primitive direction along with some grim black metal vocals while also keeping around the spoken word parts and after awhile the song starts slowing down a bit and then switching back and forth between slow and fast parts as well as bringing int a brief use of melodic guitar leads.
"Massacre, Mayhem, and Hysteria" begins with spoken word samples, fast, melodic and primitive black metal guitar riffs and drums before going into a more slow but still heavy direction and then switching back and forth between slow and fast parts and towards the end you can hear some background tortured screams and a brief use of blast beats.
"Harmonious Celebration" begins with a spoken word part before going into fast, melodic, primitive guitar riffs and drums which lead to some grim sounding black metal vocals and after awhile the song goes into a slower direction and then switching back and forth between slow and fast parts.
"The Oust" begins with some evil sounding sound effects along with some black metal style vocals and serves as an outro for the album as well as mixing in spoken word samples.
Song lyrics mass slavery, violent and dark themes, while the production has a very dark, powerful and heavy sound which does not taking away from the r aw and primitive nature of the music.
In my opinion Bitter Peace are a very great sounding dark, grim and heavy black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Green Harlot Of Abominations" "Ixiveyra" and "Harmonious Celebration". RECOMMENDED BUY.
