This is a review of another recording from Frostbitten with the musical style this time around being a dark form of black metal with elements of doom and drone and the album was self released in 2013 and called "We Prayed Under The Altar Of Luna".
"The Moon Wept Tears And Blood" begins with fast, primitive black metal guitar riffs and drums which lead to some grim sounding screams and as the song moves on the riffs make changes while remaining true to old school black metal.
"Casting A Shadow Upon Thee" begins with some fast and primitive guitar riffs and drums along with some grim vocals kicking in a few seconds later along with some blast beats and as the song moves on it gets more dark and primitive.
"Hymns Of Holy Books Burned" begins with fast, primitive guitar riffs and drums with the black metal vocals kicking in shortly after that and they use more high pitched elements this time around and as the song moves on there is a brief use of brutal sounding blast beats along with some slower riffs being used briefly after that before returning to its fast and primitive roots.
"Altar Of Luna" begins with some slow stoner/doom metal guitar riffs and drums which leads to some melodic clean singing 70's rock/proto metal vocals and the song stays in the same direction until the end while also adding small amounts of melody in the guitar riffs.
"Only In Death, Do We Realize What It Is To Live" begins with soft acoustic guitar playing which utilizes both finger picking and full chords as well as serving as an instrumental song.
"The Pagan Tomb" begins with a mixture of distorted and clean guitars which lead to some melodic vocals and this song is more in the drone/doom vein but the riffing does get more diverse as the song moves on as well as utilizing some melody which in return leads to some powerful drums and a few minute the song goes into a soft direction with some acoustic guitar playing which utilizes both finger picking and full chords as well as some leads and a few minutes later fast and primitive black metal guitar along with some blasting drums make their presence known along with some grim screams and the song stays that way for a few minutes before slowing down and going back into the acoustic guitars which also close the album.
Song lyrics cover darkness, anti christian, occult and paganism themes, while the production has a very dark, raw and primitive sound with the bass guitars being mixed down low in the mix as the last song being for long and epic in length.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Frostbitten and if you are a fan of raw and primitive black metal mixed in with elements of drone and doom, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Moon Wept Tears And Blood" and "Altar Of Luna". RECOMMENDED BUY.
