Fell Voices are a band from Northern California that has been featured before in this zine with a musical style that combines atmospheric black metal, dark ambient and drone and this is a review of their 2013 album "Regnum Saturni" which was released by Vendetta Records.
"Flesh From Bone" begins with some drone sounds and a couple of minutes later spoken words become a part of the song which leads to some blasting drums, fast, primitive black metal guitar riffs and high pitched screams and as the song moves on it starts getting more atmospheric while remaining primitive all at the same time before going into a slower direction and returns to more drone sounding area a few minutes later while also keeping around some black metal elements which in return sets up the return of the heavy, raw and primitive parts and then the song starts making switches back and forth between slow and fast parts as well as mixing in some ambient synths and the song closes with the drone and ambient parts.
"Emergence" begins with a dark ambient/drone sound and a couple of minute later fast and primitive black metal guitar riffs make their way into the song while keeping the drone elements in the background along with the drums and blast beats kicking in shortly after that along with some melody being thrown into the guitar riffing and a few minutes later high pitched screams start making their presence known which in return takes the song into a slower but still black metal direction as well as mixing in atmospheric background synths which then takes the song into a more mid paced direction and after a few minutes the music slows down and goes doe more of a blackened drone sound.
"Dawn" begins with an atmospheric/ambient drone sound and a couple of minutes later it starts adding in other elements to add more diversity along with some guitar leads to the song and a couple of minutes later primitive black metal guitar riffs make their presence known setting up the mood for some drums and atmospheric elements before going into a faster with some drum blast beats and black metal screams and the song stays in the same direction for a few minutes before slowing down but remaining in an atmospheric black metal direction along with the song going into a more mid paced direction while also going back to the slower parts at times and towards the end the song starts going into a more drone sounding direction while you can still hear some depressive black metal vocals in the background.
Song lyrics cover Master Morality, while the production has a very dark, heavy, raw and primitive sound with the bass guitars being mixed down low in the mix as well as the songs being very long and epic in length.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Fell Voices and if you are a fan of atmospheric black metal mixed with elements of dark ambient and drone, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Emergence". RECOMMENDED BUY
