France's solo project K.F.R has returned with a new recording which shows the music going for more of an experimental and lo-fi style of occult black metal and this is a review of his 2020 album "Nihilist" which will be released in July by Purity Through Fire.
A very dark and lo-fi sound starts off the album along with some grim black metal screams a few seconds later which also takes the music into a heavier direction. All of the musical instruments on the recording have a very powerful sound to them and synths are also added into some parts of the songs.
When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very dark yet melodic style and the riffs also add in a decent amount of distorted and raw melodies.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with most of the tracks also being very long and epic in length. When synths are brought into the music they also introduce elements of dark ambient onto the recording, some songs also add in a small amount of programmed beats which also gives the songs more of an experimental feeling and as the album progresses spoken word parts can also be heard on a few tracks. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Occultism, Philosophy and Psychological themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from K.F.R and if you are a fan of experimental and lo-fi occult black metal, you should check out this album.RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Lord Of The Flies" "Nihilist" "Evil Metaphysique" and All I See Is You". 8 out of 10.
