Caedes Cruenta are a band from Greece that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays an old school and Hellenic form of occult black metal and this is a review of their 2014 album "Ερείπια Ψυχών" which will be released in July as a joint effort between Helter Skelter Productions and Regain Records.
A very dark and ritualistic sounding intro starts off the album while also introducing clean playing and spoken word parts onto the recording before going into a heavier direction. A great portion of the tracks are very long and epic in length along with the music also being heavily rooted in the early 90's Greek style.
Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while the riffs also add in a decent amount of melody. When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can also be heard along with some synths also being utilized at times and the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with the music also bringing in the use of two bass guitars. Whispered vocals can also be heard in certain sections of the recording as well as the songs also having their atmospheric moments, keyboards are also added on some of the tracks.
When tremolo picking is utilized it also gives the music more of a raw feeling and the closing song also adds in a brief use of clean playing. The production sounds very raw and old school while the lyrics are also written in a mixture of English and Greek and cover Occultism, Ancient Rituals, Mysticism, Greek Mythology and Darkness themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Caedes Cruenta and if you are a fan of old school Hellenic occult black metal, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Mystical Ritual Of The Dark Priests" "Aura of Immortal Souls" and "The Crescent Symbol of The Apocalypse". 8/5 out of 10.
