- Gungnir are a duo from Greece that plays a viking form of black metal and this is a review of their 2018 ep "Ragnarok" which was released by Metal Throne Productions.
War battle sounds starts off the ep before going into a heavier musical direction while the riffs also add in a great amount of melody. When the music speeds up a lot of blast beats can also be heard along with the vocals being mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams and the music also has a lot of 90's influences.
All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while spoken chants can also be heard briefly. When tremolo picking is utilized it also gives the songs more of a raw feeling along with the songs also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts as well as the guitar leads also being done in a very melodic style and they also bring in a cover of Bathory's "Enter The Eternal Fire".
Gungir plays a style of viking black metal that goes back to the early 90's era of the genre. The production sounds very raw and old school while the lyrics cover Norse Mythology themes.
In my opinion Gungir are a very great sounding viking black metal duo and if you are of this musical genre. you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Our Swords For Thor" and "Fenrir". 8 out of 10.
