Petricor are a solo project from Chile that plays an atmospheric form of black metal and this is a review of his self released 2020 album "Australis".
Water sounds start off the album before going into a heavier musical direction while most of the tracks are also very long and epic in length. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with all of the musical instruments also having a very powerful sound to them.
All of the drum beats are also programmed while all of the songs are also instrumentals along with the music also having its repetitive moments. The riffs also add in a great amount of melody as well as the music also getting very atmospheric sounding at times, one track also introduces keyboards onto the recording.
Elements of post black metal can also be heard in some parts of the music along with one track also introducing acoustic guitars onto the album. All of the songs also sound very different from each other as well as a alter track also bringing melodic guitar leads onto the recording, all of the music sticks to either a slow or mid tempo direction and the production also sounds very dark.
In my opinion Petricor are a very great sounding instrumental and atmospheric post black metal solo project and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "I" "IV" and "VI". 8 out of 10.
