Sjodogg are a band from Norway that plays a very avant garde and dissonant mixture of black and death metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Vanskapning" which will be released on June 26th by Duplicate Records.
A very distorted yet heavy sound starts off the album while the only presented on the recording is an almost 45 minute track. The riffs also mix in a great amount of dissonant and avant garde structures along with the vocals being mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams.
Melodies can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing while angry sounding spoken word parts can also be heard briefly. When the music speeds up a great amount of blast beats can also be heard along with the song also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with some clean playing also being utilized briefly. When tremolo picking is utilized it also gives the song more of a raw feeling as well as the music also having its progressive moments, elements of death metal can also be heard at times and as the album progresses a brief use of melodic vocals can also be heard. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Occultism and Death themes.
In my opinion Sjodogg are a very great sounding avant garde and dissonant mixture of b lack and death metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out t his band. 8 out of 10.
