Hieros are a band from Akron, Ohio that plays a very melodic form of black metal with some elements of sludge and doom metal and this is a review of their 2020 ep 'Triduum" which will be released in July by Mourning Light Records.
Dark and epic sounding synths start off the ep before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. A lot of t he music also adds in 90's influences but with a more modern day aggression and the vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams.
The riffs also add in a decent amount of melody while the slow and mid tempo sections of the music also brings in elements of sludge and doom metal. All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them along with seem back up shouting vocals also being utilized at times.
When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style and the music also mixes in some influences from the Hellenic and Eastern European styles of the genre. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover ancient religions, spirituality and mysticism themes.
In my opinion Hieros are a very great sounding melodic black metal band with some elements of sludge and doom metal and if you are a fan of those musical genres, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "II"> 8 out of 10.
