Germany's duo Dauþuz has returned with a new recording which continues the raw, melodic and epic style of black metal from their previous releases and this is a review of their 2020 ep "Grubenfall 1727" which will be released on June 26th by Amotr Fati.
Acoustic guitars start off the ep while clean pagan vocals can also be heard in some [arts of the recording along with all of the tracks being very long and epic in length. Whispers can also be heard briefly before going into a heavier direction which also introduces grim yet high pitched black metal screams onto the recording.
When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard while the songs also bring in a lot of 90's influences. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the solos and leads being done in a very melodic style, the closing track also adds in a decent amount of folk music elements.
On this recording Dauþuz remains true to the raw, melodic and epic style of black metal that they had established on previous releases. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in German and cover traditional mining in Germany and Europe.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Dauþuz and if you are a fan of raw, melodic and epic black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Kerker der Ewigkeit". 8 out of 10.
