U.S.A's Starless Domain have returned with a new recording which continues the deep field style of black metal from previous releases and this is a review of their 2020 ep "URSA" which was released by Nebulae Artifacta.
Ambient style synths start off the ep and also gives the music more of a sci-fi atmosphere while the recording is a 30 minute track. The song also mixes both the heavy and atmospheric elements together along with the music also adding in a decent amount of programmed beats.
Vocals bring in in a mixture of deep growls and black metal screams while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. Melodic guitar leads can also be heard in the background at times along with the music also having its repetitive moments and as the track progresses the song also gets more diverse sounding, the whole ep also sticks to a slower direction and clean playing can also be heard briefly.
On this recording Starless Domain remains true to the deep field style of black metal that they have established on previous releases. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover deep space, auroras, emptiness, uncertainty and science fiction themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Starless Domain and if you are a fan of ambient and atmospheric black metal, you should check out this ep. 8 out of 10.
