Gabestok are a duo from Denmark that plays a garage form of black metal and this is a review of their 2020 ep "På herrens brakmark" which was released by Strange Aeons Records.
Horror movie style keyboards start off the ep before going into a very fast and raw musical direction which also uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while the music also mixes in elements of garage and punk rock.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. Keyboards also return on some of the later tracks along with some melodies also being added into the guitar riffing as well as some songs also adding in a small amount of psychedelic touches and as the ep progresses the vocals also start adding in more deeper demonic growling approach and on the closing track the drums also add in more of a tribal style as well as adding in a brief use of melodic guitar leads and clean chants.
Gabestock plays a musical style that is mostly rooted in raw black metal while also adding in some punk, crust, garage rock and psychedelic elements to create something very different. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Danish and cover occultism, horror and apocalypse themes.
In my opinion Gabestok are a very great sounding garage orientated raw black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Gode gamle Kharon" and "Imens du sov". 8 out of 10.
