Versifist are a band from Nova Scotia, Canada that plays a mixture of war, black, death and thrash metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "The Power Of The Word-The Devilry Of Air" which will be released by Humanity's Plague Productions.
A very dark, heavy and melodic sound starts off the album while the faster sections of the songs also bring in a great amount of blast beats. Elements of war metal can also be heard when the music speeds up and the vocals bring in a mixture of high pitched black metal screams and bestial growls.
All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them while the tremolo picking also gives the songs more of a raw feeling. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts and the guitar solos and leads are also done in a very dark yet melodic style.
Influences of thrash metal can also be heard in some parts of the recording along with some tracks being very long and epic in length as well as the music also adding in a decent balance between both modern and old school styles and as the album progresses a brief use of acoustic guitars can also be heard and they also bring in a cover of Bestial Warlust's "Death Rides Out", clean vocals can also be heard on the closing track. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover darkness, death and violence themes.
In my opinion Versifist are a very great unsound mixture of war, black, death and thrash metal and if you are a fan of t hose musical genres, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Deliver Us From Flesh" "In Tongues" "Spectre" and "Come Reap". 8 out of 10.
