Vspolokh are a band from Russia that plays a musical style they describe as being an Ural Chthonic form of black metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Помре" which will be released in June by Purity Through Fire.
Distorted soundscapes start off the album while also adding in some avant garde touches before going into a heavier musical direction. The riffs also add in some melodies along with the faster sections of the songs also adding in a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the album more of a raw feeling.
Most of the tracks are very long and epic in length while the vocals are mostly angry sounding black metal screams. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the guitar solos and leads also being done in a very melodic style.
When acoustic guitars are utilized they also introduce elements of folk music onto the recording along the songs also having their atmospheric moments. Flutes can also be heard briefly as well as a couple of brief instrumentals also being added on the recording as the album progresses. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics are written in Russian and cover Ural Mythology themes.
In my opinion Vspolokh are a very great sounding atmospheric and epic heathen black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this band. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Into The Netherworld" "In The Somber Lowlands" and "Czernotop". 8 out of 10.
