Deuter Hex: Hails! We are Fullmoon Night Ritual, a black metal band from Poland. We are focused on old school, darkness, Nature, Satanism. We are here to crush christians and their hopeless dying belief. We come from the mountain region in southern Poland and work as a two men band with Cryptic Lust and Deuter Hex.
2.Recently you have released a demo, can you tell us a little bit more about the musical direction you went for on the recording?
Deuter Hex: Well, the main direction of the sound was focused on bringing very raw and harsh atmosphere to the whole production. It would be a lie saying that we weren't inspired by black metal era of the 90's - that's for sure. Our ways of life in these old, dark days were connected with metal underground. The early 90's was really crazy but important time. It is not a fake, that due to situation in Poland under the communist hammer it was a very hard thing to get original stuff, it was hard to get any stuff like vinyls, tapes and so on, even if you had a lot of money. So after it all ended in the early 90's, there appeared plenty of unofficial releases which you could buy for a cheap price, and it was like an earthquake to our minds that there are a lot unknown and underestimated metal bands which are worth to be listened. But also from that time you could buy all the music equipment and play without control of the government. That was very inspiring especially when we heard that there are a lot of interesting new bands. It all changed, and brought us to the place where we are now without any celebration. As a matter of fact each riff, sound and all the coverage of Fullmoon Night Ritual is the mirror of our characters and recent experience.
Cryptic Lust: To add what Deuter Hex just said, we try to pay homage to the early days of black metal in Poland. And probably not only in Poland. If you will listen closely to the riffs you’ll find inspirations with such amazing hordes like Moonblood or a handful of early Scandinavian scene names. So yes, we aim to old days which are the past but still raging wildly in our black hearts.
3.Most of your music is also very heavily rooted in the 90's era, do you feel the black metal of that era had a better style than what is going on these days with the genre?
Deuter Hex: It depends on each person, the place and time. Comparing these early 90's and the music today could you lead astray, especially when you look at all the technical and recording terms of making music. Today we can put everything to digital format and do whatever you want to do, but it can sound very plastic and flat. In the old days you needed to spend a sort of time to prepare yourself for recording session. But besides of all that the early 90's were the time of unexpected BM. It is hard today to prepare something extraordinary, but some try and you can hear it and like it or hate it. There always exist some sort of music which is very naive and is trying to penetrate black metal with some "post modern" shit. We are not into this kind of art, we are out of it, out of making and supporting hipster emo metal crap for sure.
Cryptic Lust: I wouldn’t call “post modern” or anything that has an idiom of “post” in front of music genre an art. It is fake and made for weak minds.
I think the biggest difference between old times and nowadays is the easy access to almost anything. With few simple clicks you can have everything, you name it: music, equipment or anything you need in your empty life. I really don’t get it. Back in the days you had to put a lot of effort to even get the copy of a demo in your hands. Today everything is on the plate, ready and waiting for you. Sometimes it is just disappointing to see where the passion for the music I live for went to. It became like another product, something you have and has no thrill. I wonder how many people who buys tapes / cds / vinyls are still celebrating those moments of unwrapping it? How many still listen to the music doing nothing else at the same time? Black metal unfortunatelly became another fancy genre for eveyone. I despite such attitiude. All I know is that I celebrate my own darkness my own way and I keep doing what I have to do. Anything else is not important.
4.Some of your lyrics also touch of Satanism, can you tell us a little bit more about your interest in this topic?
Deuter Hex : It's a total denial of the culture which is based on christianity and it's commandments. This religion is very perfidious, especially when people observe the way of life performed by priesthood. All the pillars of this religion are just theory. These theories are against real human nature and its ways of life. Satan is a personification of the real human calls in opposition to belief that destroys human needs. Satanism was always based on denying the christian order, and that's the last part of philosophy which the main point is mankind. As a matter of fact we are close to the philosophy of Michael W. Ford written in his "Luciferian Magic" book, but also we are under the philosophy of Aleister Crowley and against all the pseudo satanic modern LaVey Church posers which are just a theatre of mistakes.
5.What are some of the other lyrical topics and subjects you have explored so far with the music?
Deuter Hex : The other topic, but maybe more important is the exploration of human nature facing the realm of the mountains. We are living in the Sudetian Mountains and we can easily just get out of the house and visit a lot of lonely, secret places which we know and use to charge our ideas. There are a lot of places covered by peaks with medieval ruins and abandoned small castles which are not touched by civilization. It gives us a lot of inspiration. As a result of our ideas there are also other topics like extinction of modern culture, the place of man in the rotten reality and black magic rituals.
6.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Fullmoon Night Ritual'?
Deuter Hex: The name is a straight emanation of our personalities and our philosophy. The moon was always interpreted by people as the opposition of the sun and of the day. All the bad, scary, terrifying things were happening during the night, and especially under the fullmoon. In local beliefs it was a time of dark activity, time of meeting Satan, of Sabbath and committing rituals. The ritual ceremony that is happening during the fullmoon are the ones of the strongest psychodramatic events. We are using the fullmoon night as a time of performing the strongest incantations in contact with the astral life.
7.Can you tell us a little bit more about the artwork that is presented on the demo cover?
Cryptic Lust: The artwork on our demo tape represents the music itself. There is not a lot to be added on the top of that.
8.With this project you work as a duo, do you feel the music is a little bit more personal with less members?
Cryptic Lust: Yes, I agree. The main reason we work as a due is a very good understanding of each other. We know what we want to achieve, what is our goal. Our minds are set to this one and only direction. With more members ‘on board’ it wouldn’t be so easy to achieve agreement with music matters.
9.One of the band members also runs 'Morbid Chapel Records', can you tell us a little bit more about this label?
Cryptic Lust: That would be me. Morbid Chapel Records was established in the year of 2014. I am focused on Black Metal and Death Metal. 10.On a worldwide level how has the reaction been to your music by fans of black metal?
Cryptic Lust: To be honest with you we were shocked that the feedback was so well. It doesn’t mean we underestimate our ability to create proper black metal in the old way, but we didn’t care a lot about promoting it. We send some copies to our close friends, some copies went as a part of trade with other labels and we are satisfied with the outcome. There was no criticism, but even if, we do Fullmoon Night Ritual for ourselves – to satisfy our needs first.
11.Are there any plans for a full length on the future and also where do you see the music project heading into during the future?
Cryptic Lust: Within next months new demo should be ready. It will be released under the Morbid Chapel Records banner again and I think it will remain this way. The coming demo will bring a bit of changes as we plan to use a bit more of keyboards. But do not worry, we are not heading into any symphonic shit. It will remain raw as on the first demo, but we plan to add some more underlines of the atmosphere of the recording.
12.Does the musical project have any influences outside the black metal genre?
Cryptic Lust: No. This is black metal and it will remain the way it should be preserved. No outside influences, ever!
