Murder Rape are a band from Brazil that plays a very old school form of satanic black metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Malum Absolutum" which was released by Cogumelo Records.
A very dark and ritualistic sounding intro starts off the album before going into a heavier musical direction while melodies can also be heard in some of the guitar riffing. Vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams along with the music also having a decent amount of 80's and 90's influences but keeping it modern at the same time.
When synths are utilized they also enhance the occult atmosphere of the music while clean playing can also be heard in some parts of the recording. Some of the tracks are also very long and epic in length and when the music speeds up a decent amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw feeling.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very dark yet melodic style as well as one track also adding in a brief use of clear vocals, as the album progresses another brief ritualistic interlude can be heard.
They also bring in a cover of Bathory's "The Return And Darkness And Evil" which also sounds more modern than the original version and Gregorian chants can also be heard on the outro. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Satanism, Evil, Darkness and Anti Christianity themes.
In my opinion Murder Rape are a very great sounding old school satanic black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Let the Age of Antichrist Come" "Majestic Funeral" and "For Evil I Spill My Blood". 8/5 out of 10.
