This is a review of a split album between Iceland's Almyrkvi and Germany's The Ruins Of Beverast which will be released in June by Van Records and we will start off the review with Almyrkvi a duo that plays an atmospheric form of black metal.
Their side of the split starts out with a very dark and heavy sound while both of the their tracks are also very long and epic in length. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic style along with the music also mixing the atmospheric elements into the heavier sections of the songs.
Vocals are mostly deep blackened growls along with some black metal screams also being utilized at times. Touches of doom metal can also be heard in the slower sections of the songs along with the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody and clean singing can also be heard briefly.
All of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them along with a brief use of clean playing as well a s both of the tracks sticking to either a slow or mid tempo style. The production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics cover black holes, cosmos and darkness themes.
In my opinion Almyrkvi are a very great sounding atmospheric black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out their side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Managarmr".
Next up is The Ruins Of Beverast a solo project that has had music reviewed before in this zine and plays an atmospheric mixture of black and doom metal.
His side of the split starts out with some melodic pagan chants while both of his tracks are also very long and epic in length. All of the musical instruments on his side of the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with some elements of doom metal also being added into the slower sections of the songs.
Death metal growls are also utilized quite a bit throughout his side of the split along with some clean playing also being utilized at times, Atmospheric sounding synths are also added into some parts of the tracks as well as the songs also bringing in a great amount of black metal influences and when the music finally speeds up blast beats and tremolo picking can also be heard. The production sounds very dark and heavy while the lyrics cover psychosis, death, esoteric and cosmic themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from The Ruins Of Beverast and if you are a fan of atmospheric black and doom metal, you should check out his side of the split. RECOMMENDED TRACK "Hunters".
In conclusion I feel this is a very great sounding split and I would recommend it to all fans of atmospheric black and doom metal. 8 out of 10.
