Seattle, Washington;s Eye Of Nix have returned with a new recording which shows the music going into a mixture of atmospheric black, sludge, doom metal and psychedelic rock and this is a review of their 2020 album "Ligeia" which will be released in June by Lupus Lounge.
Acoustic guitar playing starts off the album while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. Operatic female vocals are also a very huge part of the recording along with the slower riffing also capturing the heaviness of sludge and doom metal and blast beats can also be heard during the faster sections of the music.
When tremolo picking is utilized it also gives the album more of a raw black metal feeling while aggressive screams are also utilized quite a bit throughout the recording. Growls can also be heard in certain sections of the songs along with the tracks also adding in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts.
All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them along with the music also having its psychedelic moments as well as the synths also giving the songs more of an atmospheric feeling when they are utilized, one track also introduces elements of harsh noise onto the recording and a later song is also an instrumental and a couple of songs are also very long and epic in length. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover mythology obsession, trepidation, addiction and illusion themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from ye Of Nix and if you are a fan of atmospheric, black, sludge, doom metal and psychedelic rock, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Concealing Waters" "Ligeia" and "Stone & Fury". 8 out of 10.
