Acedia Mundi are a band from France that has been featured before in this zine and on this recording plays an urban form of black metal and this is a review of their 2020 ep "Selfhatred.Addiction" which was released by Musiko Eye.
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the ep along with some grim yet high pitched sounding black emtal s creams a few seconds later. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very technical and dissonant style along with some blast beats being added into the faster sections of the music,
When tremolo picking is utilized it also gives the music more of a raw feeling while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. All of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them as well as some death metal growls also being used at times and they also add in some Katharsis and Stooges covers, spoken word parts can also be heard briefly.
On this recording Acedia Mundi plays a style of black metal that is very aggressive, technical and dissonant sounding along with some touches of death metal. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover psychology, suffering and the dark side of the human mind.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Acedia Mundi and if you are a fan of aggressive, technical and dissonant black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Nemo Me Impune Lacessit (I Will Kill You)" and "Dic(k)hter". 8 out of 10.
