Mammoth Lakes, California's solo project Sxuperion has returned with a new recording which continues the cosmic and atmospheric mixture of black and death metal from his previous releases and this is a review of his 2020 album "Omniscient Pulse" which will be released in June by Bloody Mountain Records.
Sci-fi style synths and soundscapes start off the album before going into a very fast and brutal war metal direction which also uses a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are mostly bestial death metal growls along with some black metal screams also being utilized at times.
A couple of the tracks are very long and epic in length while the solos and leads are also done in a very chaotic style. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the riffs also adding in some dark sounding melodies and spoken word samples are also used on a few tracks.
Touches of ambient can also be heard at times in the synths along with a brief use of rain and thunder sounds. Dissonant style riffing can also be heard in some parts of the recording as well as the guitar solos and leads also being done in a very dark yet melodic style, clean playing is also added on some of the songs. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are based upon how this current reality is just a deep=sleep dream.
In my opinion this is another great sounding album from Sxuperion and if you are a fan of atmospheric and cosmic blackened death metal, you should check out this recording. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Owl" "Presque-Vu" and "Myopian Frequency Release". 8 out of 10.
