Orfvs are a duo from Finland that plays a very melodic, old school and synth orientated form of black metal and this is a review of their 2020 ep "Ceremony Of Darkness" which will be released in June by Spread Evil.
A very dark and evil sound starts off the ep along with some grim sounding black metal screams a few seconds later. Synths are also added into the heavier sections of the songs and also gives the music more of an atmospheric feeling and most of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
When the music speeds up a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats can be heard which also gives the songs more of a raw atmosphere. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the music also being heavily rooted in the 90's era as well as the riffs also adding in a great amount of melody and when guitar solos and leads are utilized briefly they are also done in a very melodic style, classical guitars are also used on the closing track.
Orfvs plays a style of black metal that is very raw, melodic, atmospheric and synth orientated in the 90's tradition. The production sounds very raw and old school while the lyrics cover Satanism and Esoteric Occultism themes.
In my opinion Orfvs are a very great sounding raw, melodic, atmospheric and synth orientated black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Son Of Morning Sky"and "The Void Around Anima Mundi". 8 out of 10.
