The Rite are an international band with members from Denmark and Italy that has had music reviewed before in this zine and on this recording plays a satanic and occult mixture of black and doom metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "liturgy Of The Black" which will be released in June by Iron Bonehead Productions.
A very dark and ritualistic sounding intro starts off the album along with a brief use of melodic chants before going into a heavier direction. Elements of doom metal are also added into the slower sections of the songs while the vocals are mostly grim sounding black metal screams and the music also adds in a great amount of 90's influences.
All of the musical instruments have a very powerful sound to them while the music also gives an old school style a more modern atmosphere. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are also done in a very melodic style along with the riffs also adding in a great amount of dark sounding melodies.
Keyboards are also added into some parts of the recording along with the music also showing an influence of both the first second wave style. During the faster sections of the songs a decent amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the recording more of a raw feeling.
A couple of the tracks are also very long and epic in length as well as one song also introducing clean playing onto the recording along with some tracks also adding in whispered vocals, mid tempo riffing is also utilized a lot more as the album progresses. The production sounds very professional while the lyrics cover Satanism, Occultism and Left Hand Path themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from The Rite and if you are a fan of satanic and occult black and doom metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Black Effigy" "Necromancy" The Bornless One" and "Tresspassing the Chapel". 8/5 out of 10.
