Dratna are a solo project from Ireland that has been featured before in this zine and plays an atmospheric form of pagan black metal and this is a review of his self released 2020 ep "Druid Winds & The Fall Of The Celtic Gods".
Rain and thunder sounds starts off the ep before going into more of a heavier and atmospheric direction. When guitar solos and leads are utilized they are done in a very melodic style while the lyrics are mostly high pitched black metal screams and a couple of the tracks are very long and epic in length.
The riffs also add in a great amount of melody while all of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them. When the music speeds up a small amount of blast beats and tremolo picking can be heard which also gives the recording more of a raw feeling along with one track also introducing clean playing and synths onto the ep as well as most of the music also sticking to mostly a mid tempo direction.
On this recording Dratna remains true to the atmospheric style of black metal that he established on his previous release. The production sounds very raw and heavy while the lyrics cover Irish Paganism and Mythology themes.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Dratna and if you are a fan of atmospheric pagan black metal, you should check out this ep. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "The Sons of Mil: Death to The Tuatha De Dannan" and "Banished From The Shores Of Eire". 8 out of 10.
