Walpurgia are a band from Greece that plays a very blasphemous and apocalyptic form of war metal and this is a review of their 2020 demo "Altar Of The Goatbaphomet" which was released in June as a joint effort between Helter Skelter and Regain Records.
A very fast, raw and brutal war metal sound starts off the demo along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Vocals are a mixture of bestial growls and black metal screams while all of the musical instruments on the recording also have a very powerful sound to them.
Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts while most of the riffing is also done on power chords with only a small amount of single string notes. All of the music avoids any use of melody to focus more on a raw and brutal style and the whole demo also sticks to a heavier musical direction as well as one track also adding in some ritualistic chants.
Walpurgia plays a style of war metal that is very raw, brutal and violent sounding. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics cover Satanism, Goat Worship and Occultism themes.
In my opinion Walpurgia are a very great sounding blasphemous and apocalyptic war metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this demo. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Altar Of The Goatbaphomet" and "Desecration Ritual".8 out of 10.
