Wilczyca are a duo from Poland that has been featured before in this zine and plays a very raw and old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Horda" which was released by Godz of War Productions.
A very and fast and raw musical sound starts off the album along with a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats. Most of the music is also very heavily rooted in the 90's second wave style while the vocals are mostly grim yet high pitched black metal screams and dark sounding melodies can also be heard in some of the riffing.
All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. One track is also an instrumental and also introduces dark soundscapes and ambient elements onto the recording before returning back to a heavier direction on the remaining tracks and the closing song is also very long and epic in length which also adds in some atmospheric sounding keyboards and melodic guitar leads.
On this recording Wilczyca remain true to the raw and old school style of black metal that was established on the previous release as well as adding in an ambient track and a small amount of atmospheric sounds to show some progress from their previous album. The production sounds very dark and raw while the lyrics are written in Polish and cover blasphemy, anti Christianity, poetry and mental disorders.
In my opinion this is another great sounding recording from Wilczyca and if you are a fan of raw and old school black metal, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Horda" and "Demon". 8 out of 10.
