Malign are a band from Sweden that plays an orthodox from of black metal and this is a review of their 1995 demo which will be re-issued in June, 2020 as a joint effort between Shadow and Regain Records and also contains rough versions of the demo songs as bonus tracks.
A very dark and heavy sound starts off the demo while the faster sections of the songs also bring in a great amount of tremolo picking and blast beats which also gives the recording more of a raw feeling. All of the musical instruments also have a very powerful sound to them.
Vocals are mostly high pitched black metal screams while the songs also add in a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts. All of the music also has a style that was very common in 90's era black metal along with most of the guitar riffing being done on power chords as well as one track also introducing clean playing onto the recording and the bonus tracks also sound rougher than the original versions.
Malign played a style of orthodox black metal on this demo that was very raw and aggressive sounding. The production sounds very dark, raw and old school while the lyrics cover Luciferianism, Satanism, Occultism, Death and Darkness themes.
In my opinion Malign are a very great sounding orthodox black metal band and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this re-issue. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "Extirpation Of The Feeble"and "Covenant Of Black Souls". 8 out of 10.
