Blood Stronghold are an international duo with members from Australia and Poland that plays a very epic and old school form of black metal and this is a review of their 2020 album "Spectres Of Bloodshed" which will be released in July as a joint effort between Nebular Carcoma and Satanik Requiem.
Tribal style drums start off the album along with some heavier riffing a few seconds alter while the guitar solos and leads are done in a very dark yet melodic style. Vocals are mostyl grim sounding black metal screams and when the music speeds up a decent amount of blast beats can be heard.
When tremolo picking is utilized it also gives the songs more of a raw feeling while the music is also very heavily rooted in the 90's Polish style. Throughout the recording you can also hear a decent mixture of slow, mid paced and fast parts along with the riffs also adding in a decent amount of melody.
Clean playing can also be heard in certain sections of the recording and also gives the music more of an ancient pagan era atmosphere as well as a couple of the tracks being very long and epic in length and as the album progresses a brief use of melodic chants can also be heard. The production sounds very dark, raw and old school while the lyrics cover Slavic Paganism, Mysticism Of Blood, Wolf Spirits and Ancient Times.
In my opinion Blood Stronghold are a very great sounding epic and old school black metal duo and if you are a fan of this musical genre, you should check out this album. RECOMMENDED TRACKS INCLUDE "From The Depths Of Veles Sea" and "Sunder". 8/5 out of 10.
